You can proceed the chapters by 15 or more without VC if you are lucky in Gacha and have many good 5 star characters, but soon or later you are required to master VCs.
With the effective VC use you can complete all the main story (Part1.5, Ch.45) even if you don't have any of 5 star characters from Gacha. I actually completed Ch. 45 only with the story characters.
How to use VCs
Move a character from the sub (reserve) position to the front.Effect Area and Turn of VCs
Debuff
All the VCs for debuffs affect the whole monsters in a battle and is in effect for 1 consecutive turn following the turn in which VC is effectuated. That means, for example, that if Azami comes in, or switches with someone, at the front position before anyone else move, her VC for debuff actually survives 2 turns.Buff
The VCs for buffs have two types. One is similar to those of debuffs. The effect area is the whole characters in the front position, and the effect survive 1 consecutive turn. The other is self-buff, which survives normally 3 consecutive turns.Condition
Some characters have VCs for Conditions. Bertrand and Soila as a tank have the VC incorporating Condition invocation, which has a whole-area (-monsters) effect but unfortunately is not landed on with 100% probability. Yuna and Kullervo have the VC incorporating Condition removal.Thou shalt not forget
Unlike debuffs by skills, VC's debuff is landed on all the monsters in the battle with 100% probability!!Useful VCs and characters
