Categorization

You can categorize characters in several different points of views.

By Role

With the focus on role in battles, characters are roughly categorized as either (1) attacker, (2) healer or (3) supporter, but this category is not clear-cut.
Azami, for example, is generally considered as an attacker with a triple elemental physical attack (IV) skill.
She also has the VC of Intelligence +20% debuff, which is very helpful to confront with boss monsters dealing magic attacks, and thus she may also be a good supporter.

By Acquaintance

By the manner of acquiring (acquaintance with) characters, they are categorized as follows:

1. Story characters; e.g. Aldo, Amy and Rica, which join with the progress of chapters in the main story.
2. Side story characters; e.g. Deirdre, Saki and Jade, which join with the progress of several side stories.
3. Come-across (Kaikou) characters; Azami, Cerrine and Gariyu, which join by completing each come-across (Kaikou) event.
4. Gallery of Dreams (Gacha) characters; e.g. Anabel, Bertrand and Toova, which join through Gallery of Dreams (Gacya).

Characters except for Gacha characters are collectively called "Haifu" (free-to-get) characters as they join just upon completion of certain contents without payment for or luck of Gacha.

By Elemental Trait

Each character has a single elemental trait; either of Fire, Water, Air or Earth. In accordance with the strength of the elements, the rate of its respective elemental resistance is increased by unlocks in its AB. Iska, for example, has an Air trait, which is strong against Earth and accordingly the rate of her Earth resistance is intensified by the maximum of 30%.
Characters' elemental traits can be normally figured out by reference to their attack skills, to which a particular element is assigned. But It is not always the case where some characters have non-elemental attack skills only.
